Foot Positions (FP)
These have traditionally been measured in relation to the standing foot giving rise to such FP's as:
RF Fwd |
RF Diagonally Fwd |
LF Back |
LF Fwd and Across in CBMP |
RF Back and Across |
LF behind RF* |
LF fwd in CBMP |
LF closes to RF |
LF side and slightly back |
LF crosses in front of RF |
* TTO = Toe Turn Out a slight turnout of the toe for balance or style.
and some of the syllabus manuals contain pictures of a compressive list of FP's.
In SBAS (Segment Based Alignment System) the moving foot designates a new Tvec from which everything is measured against in angles. For example:
1. LF diagonally forward
- Traditional System: look at picture in manual and hope that it's representing the 'amount' of 'diagonal'
- SBAS: left foot diagonally forward \(-45^\text{o}\) which precisely defines the angle that the LF moves with respect to the RF
2. RF Forward and slightly Side
- Traditional System: different dancers will have different ideas from different teachers even if they have looked at pictures that hopefully exist in the syllabus or other books
- SBAS: RF forward \(+22^\text{o}\) which precisely defines what 'slightly' means and where the RF is placed with respect to the LF,
\(+22^\text{o}\) is also considered to be the minimum angle that dancers can easily conceptualize. Ok, there are some references to \(+12^\text{o}\) in very specific figures.
